Terms of Service

Last updated: May 3, 2026 — Closed Beta

For the plain-language version of how we handle your data, see our Privacy & Trust Principles.

1. What MasteryGate Is

MasteryGate is an AI-powered Socratic study tutor. It asks you questions about your study material to help you find gaps in your understanding. It does not give direct answers to academic content.

2. Beta Program

During closed beta, access is limited. Beta testers who do not log in for 4 consecutive days may have their spot released to other students. VIP invitees are exempt from this policy. Beta testers may receive frequent feedback prompts — participation helps improve the product.

3. AI Disclaimer

MasteryGate uses AI models that can make mistakes. All AI-generated content should be verified against your course materials, textbooks, and professors' guidance. MasteryGate is a study aid, not a replacement for professional instruction. For medical and legal study material, elevated accuracy warnings apply.

4. Your Data

Your tutoring conversations, session metadata, and AI-generated flashcards are stored on our servers to provide continuity between sessions and personalized learning support. This data is linked to your beta code, not to your identity. When you paste raw study notes for a session, the raw text is processed during the active session and is not retained as a separate stored artifact; only a change-detection hash is retained so we can recognize when you've updated your notes.

We use third-party AI providers to generate tutor responses. The content you choose to submit during a session — your messages, pasted notes, and uploaded materials — is sent to these providers for processing so they can generate tutoring responses. MasteryGate does not actively transmit your name, email, or access code to AI providers; however, if information of that kind appears in content you choose to submit, it will be processed along with the rest of the session content.

Aggregated, anonymized usage metrics (session counts, feature usage, AI provider performance) are collected to improve the service. Individual session content is never shared with third parties beyond the AI processing described above.

You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing privacy@masterygate.com. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

5. Acceptable Use

MasteryGate is for educational purposes. You agree not to use it for academic dishonesty, to generate content for submission as your own work, or to attempt to circumvent the Socratic method by extracting direct answers.

6. Copyright & DMCA Policy
